Abraham Lincoln (presented by Gerry Payn) speaking on the trials and tribulations during his presidency and Mary Todd Lincoln (presented by Mary Kerr) speaking on her life as a widow after Mr. Lincoln's death.
Program Sunday, Mar. 1, 1:30 p.m. in the School House by Jeff Musselman and Jason Anderson speaking on Wayne County in the Civil War.
Civil War Encampment Sat. & Sun., April 25 & 26, on the Society grounds by members of the 41st OVI (Capt. Ron Rechnitzer) and members of the 4th OVI (Lt. Dennis Brinker). If weather does not permit an encampment, they will have demonstrations and a program in the School House beginning at 1:30 on Sunday.
Visitors are encouraged to wear Civil War Era clothing to the programs if you have some available!
You won't want to miss this display and programs! The committee, Tom Cramer, Connie Garg, Harry McClarran, Jim Norton, Beth & Jim Opatrny, Roger Rowe, and Gerry Payn, are excited about getting to show off all of our Civil War artifacts, of which we have an ample supply. We also appreciate that several people are loaning their Civil War items for exhibit. Our last Civil War Display was ten years ago in 1999, and especially with Mr. Lincoln's 200th birthday in 2009, it was felt that this is the time for another display/programs.
Items to be included in the display include Gen. Charles Corfman's Cannon, Era dresses by Mrs Janice Corfman, Ray Leisy's Civil War Tokens, Abraham Lincoln collection of Gerry Payn (including an Apr. 15, 1865 newspaper - the day he died), Virgil and Ann Kline's surgical instruments, etc used by the medical units, the 16th OVI Guidon owned by the Society, musical instruments, uniforms, GAR and DUV items, the many items from the fourteen Regiments that over 3200 men from Wayne County participated in during the War, etc.
The ladies working with the Society's textile collection will have a display of Civil War Era Clothing and other items in the Dress Shop.
The charge for the programs and display is the usual Museum charge of $5.00 for non-members (no charge for members of the WCHS - we would be glad to have everybody join the society).
Adams County Retired Teachers will have a Lincoln's 200th Birthday Celebration

During the play a high school student will be playing Civil War music on the violin, while a retired teacher reads a story about Lincoln. Lincoln is portrayed by an elementary school student. Clara Barton and General Grant, two retired teachers, will join in and share their life during the Civil War.
Heidelberg College events February 2009
Heidelberg College Tiffin, OhioFebruary 9-14, 2009 a special Lincoln exhibit will be on display in the college library provided by the Ohio Civil War Museum.
February 12 Heidelberg professors will speak on Lincoln in Rickly Chapel. These events are free and open to the public.
March 27-28, 2009, a Lincoln 200 Anniversary Conference will be sponsored by Heidelberg College including ten speakers, an exhibit, book vendors, and a performance of Aaron Copeland's Lincoln Portrait. Featured speakers are "Mrs. Lincoln" and Charles Bracelen Flood, author of "1864: Lincoln's Gateway to History" to be published February 5th by Simon & Shuster. Kenneth E. April M. Beisaw, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Anthropology, Heidelberg College Director of Research, Port Tobacco Archaeological Project will be working with some students at Heidelberg College to prepare a museum exhibit on Lincoln using a collection of memorabilia donated to the college in the 1970s.
The exhibit "Remembering Lincoln" will be installed in the Port Tobacco Courthouse Museum in Port Tobacco, Maryland. This corresponds with her ongoing research into the role that Port Tobacco and its residents played in the Lincoln assassination conspiracy. This research is being funded by a Preserve America grant.
The exhibit "Remembering Lincoln" will open in Maryland on Tuesday, March 10, 2009. A team of archeology students from Heidelberg College's Center for Historic and Military Archeology will be joining the Port Tobacco Archaeological Project for a week long field session at Port Tobacco.
The college students will be bringing an exhibit of Abraham Lincoln memorabilia, on loan from Heidelberg's Beeghly Library, with them to install in the Port Tobacco courthouse museum. An exhibit opening will be held on a Tuesday evening and the museum will be open for extended hours during that week.
